The Northbrook Historical Society is gearing up to help the village continue to celebrates its 125 years with a special edition of Shermerfest, its annual fall festival and celebration of Northbrook history.
The 48th Shermerfest will take place Sunday, Sept. 27 from noon to 4 p.m. in Village Green Park in downtown Northbrook.
A free family event since 1979, Shermerfest is the second-oldest outdoor event in Northbrook, according to the Society.
Shermerfest will feature tours of the Northbrook History Museum complete with a walkthrough of a 1900s home replica, as well as children’s games, community groups, food and refreshments, a real blacksmith, mums for sale and live music.
This Shermerfest will also host a bake sale for the first time in almost a decade.
Classic vehicles from all eras will exhibited throughout the park, and awards will be given to the favorite vehicle.
Shermerfest will also host its Cow Pie Moo-lette. After a section of lawn is marked into white grid squares, a live cow from Wagner Farm in Glenview arrives to graze. Participants can buy a raffle ticket for a certain square, and if the cow deposits something in that square, they win. Raffle tickets may be purchased on the Northbrook Historical Society’s website (www.northbrookhistory.org) or at Shermerfest.
