Due to the showers and thunderstorms that hit Aurora throughout the weekend, the 2026 Fiestas Patrias Parade set for 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in the city’s downtown was canceled.

The city of Aurora announced the cancellation in a message a few hours before the parade was scheduled to begin.

In its message, Aurora officials said the city was under a flood watch, per the National Weather Service, until 1 P.M. Sunday. That meant there remained the potential for localized flooding, including flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Aurora officials, in the message about the cancellation, said “the city prioritizes the safety of all residents, and has come to this decision based on the heavy rainfall that has hit the area, along with the latest weather forecast, showing more rain and a continued risk of flooding.”

According to organizers, the parade, sponsored by the city of Aurora and the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board, was set to feature numerous floats and groups to provide a community-wide celebration of Mexican Independence Day, Hispanic Heritage Month and the city’s Hispanic culture.
