A 29-year-old man has died following a rollover crash Friday morning on Aurora’s Far East Side, according to the Aurora Police Department.

At around 5 a.m. on Friday, Aurora police officers and firefighters responded to the intersection of Eola Road and McCoy Drive for a report of a rollover crash involving a blue Jeep utility vehicle and a blue Honda coupe, according to a news release Friday from the Aurora Police Department.

Upon arrival, responders found the drivers and passengers of both vehicles with serious injuries, the news release said.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics took a 29-year-old man, who had been a passenger in the Honda, to an area hospital, and he was later pronounced dead, according to the police department. The drivers of both vehicles were also taken to area hospitals for treatment, and were both listed in stable condition as of Friday.

The police department’s Traffic Division responded to investigate the scene, which remained closed for several hours, the news release from the department said. Members of the Aurora Emergency Management Agency assisted with traffic control and scene lighting throughout the investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda had been traveling eastbound on McCoy Drive and entering the intersection of Eola Road when it was struck by the Jeep, per the police department.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office took custody of the 29-year-old man at the hospital, and an autopsy is to be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, the news release indicated. His identity is to be confirmed and released at a later time.

The investigation, meanwhile, remains ongoing, the police department said. Preliminary investigation indicates that neither driver showed signs of impairment, but Aurora police traffic investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be reviewed with the DuPage County States Attorney’s Office to determine whether there will be criminal charges, officials said.
