An Aurora man has been charged in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation that recently led to the recovery of a number of firearms, narcotics, ammunition and cash, the Aurora Police Department said on Wednesday.
At around 8 p.m. Sept. 1, Aurora Police Special Operations Group investigators served a search warrant at a home in the 500 block of Sherman Avenue, with assistance from the Community Oriented Policing Unit, K-9 and drone officers and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, a news release from the Aurora Police Department said.

Investigators said they recovered three rifles, four handguns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, the police department said. One of the handguns was a privately manufactured Polymer80 firearm without a serial number, according to the department. Investigators also said that several of the firearms were unsecured and accessible to children living in the home, according to the release.
Investigators also recovered roughly 149 grams of cannabis, 25.4 grams of methamphetamine, 61 grams of THC gummies, digital scales, packaging materials and $2,257 in cash, the news release from the police department said.
In connection with the investigation, investigators took Alberto Diaz-Vargas, 40, of Aurora, into custody, the department said.
He has since been charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and possession of cannabis, according to the police department, who said additional firearm-related charges remain pending.
Diaz-Vargas was released from custody after appearing for a detention hearing on Sept. 2, the news release said. He is next set to appear in court on Oct. 7.
