The City of Lights Film Festival, sponsored by the city of Aurora, Waubonsee Community College and Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, opens Friday evening in downtown Aurora, organizers said.
The opening night will feature a screening of “Adult Children,” filmed in northern Illinois and set in Chicago, according to a press release from the city of Aurora. The film follows a 17-year-old student struggling to find herself as she writes her college acceptance essay, the release said.
Doors to the opening night event open at 6 p.m. at The Venue at 21 S. Broadway in the city’s downtown. Ticket holders will be treated to music, appetizers and the feature film screening, the release said. Mark Glassgow, Chicago-based film producer and managing partner of Chicago Media Angels, will be in attendance Friday night for a post-screening question-and-answer session as one of the film’s producers, according to the release.
Ticket holders will also get entry to the festival after party at Craft Urban, 41 S. Stolp Ave., immediately following the event at The Venue, organizers said.
Independent film screenings will continue Saturday at The Venue in downtown Aurora as part of the film fest, starting with the documentary feature, “How To Build A Library.”
Six student films from young, amateur filmmakers across the Midwest will screen as part of Saturday’s Student Film block, while eight short films will close the festival from Midwest filmmakers from Chicago, Milwaukee and beyond, the release said.
Most of the filmmakers of the short and student-made films will be in attendance on Saturday for post-screening question-and-answer sessions, according to organizers.
Additionally, the Aurora festival will celebrate the 25th anniversary of 2001’s jukebox musical “Moulin Rouge” with a legacy screening at The Venue at 4 p.m. Saturday.
