GAIL BORDEN FOUNDATION HOLDING SEMIANNUAL BOOK SALE

Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation’s semiannual book sale will be held from Wednesday to Sunday, Sept. 16-20, at the library’s main branch, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Wednesday’s preview night sale runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and costs $10 to attend. Admission is free for the remaining days, with hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Books, CDs, DVDs and other items will be for sale, with most priced at $1 or $2. Proceeds help support the library’s literacy programs and fund special exhibits.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP HOLDING FOOD TRUCK FEST THURSDAY

Hanover Township’s annual Fall Food Truck Festival will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the township’s William Tiknis Campus, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Food vendors will include Brothers’ BBQ, Smash’d, Polish Shack, Da Pizza Truck, Kori’s Koop, Churros Tinoco, D’s Treats, La Catrina Taco Truck, Cousins Maine Lobster, Kona Ice and the Hawaiian Food Truck, according to a news release. A beverage tent will be set up to sell beer, wine, soda and water.

Music will be provided by Austin Hopkins, Justine Ewald and Chicago-area cover band iPop. The event will also feature free games for children. Staff will be on hand to talk about the various township services and programs.

Parking will be available at Village Church of Bartlett, 601 W. Bartlett Road and the Bartlett Metra Lot at Western and Oneida avenues. Free shuttles will provide transportation to and from the campus. Attendees must enter off West Bartlett Road to access the township campus.

SOUTH ELGIN PD MEETING ON NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAMS

The South Elgin Police Department Community Action Team will host a meeting on starting neighborhood watch programs from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Public Safety Center, 50 S. Water St., South Elgin.

In addition to providing information about watch programs, the meeting will cover speeding concerns, new e-transportation rules going into effect Jan. 1, parking ordinances and other policing issues, according to a social media post.

ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE HOSTING WINE TASTING BENEFIT

Elgin Community College will host “Aged to Perfection: Alumni & Friends Wine Tasting” from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Spartan Terrace Restaurant in Building I, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Guests will taste and can learn about a curated selection of wines paired with bites crafted by students and faculty from ECC’s Culinary Arts Program, according to the ECC website. Proceeds will be used to fund culinary arts program scholarships and programming.

CARPENTERSVILLE FALL FEST AT CARPENTER PARK ON SATURDAY

Carpentersville will hold its annual Fall Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in Carpenter Park, 275 Maple Ave., Carpentersville.

The day will feature free pumpkin decorating, train rides, bounce houses, a magic show, a DJ, food and beverage vendors, and a market walk featuring 50 booths, according to the village website.
