Bridget Fahrner, formerly a world languages teacher with 23 years in the district, according to meeting documents, had been arrested last month by the Wauconda Police Department for domestic battery and bodily harm. She had been placed on administrative leave prior to her resignation.
In response to questions about a previously announced district investigation, a D113 representative said Fahrner’s resignation ended its investigation, and there will be no findings or summary released. Her compensation and benefits ended with her resignation, effective Wednesday.
Prior to her arrest, Fahrner had faced public criticism from some community members. In October, Keith Brin spoke during a board meeting alleging a pattern of “inappropriate behavior” by Fahrner.
He said he has a relative who is a student at the school who was one of several students who experienced “verbal harassment,” inappropriate touching, and the showing of what he says was an inappropriate film in class.
At the time, Brin was the Lake County Republican chair, but said his comments had no relation to his position.
In a statement responding to Fahrner’s resignation, Brin criticized the district and board for not taking additional action after being “warned that she was unstable long before her abuse of multiple students last year.”
“The school board lost its mission, highlighted by the cowardice of its members in keeping a child abuser around vulnerable students,” Brin said. “What other malfeasance are they burying at the expense of the students?”
