A crash involving a semi-truck striking a railroad bridge over Interstate 88 in Naperville forced the temporary closure of westbound lanes Thursday and backed up traffic for miles.

The collision occurred about 1:45 p.m. near Eola Road and involved two other vehicles, according to the Illinois State Police. One person was taken to a local hospital with possible injuries, the report said.

Multiple lanes were closed for about two hours later, with some traffic using the shoulder to bypass the scene. Traffic was not fully restored until about 4:20 p.m., state police said.

A state police spokesperson declined to share more details about what caused the crash or the status of the person sent to the hospital.

The bridge that was struck is used by the Canadian National Railway, said Joelle McGinnis, spokesperson for the Illinois Toll Highway Authority, which has jurisdiction over the bridge.

McGinnis did not have more information Friday on the damage resulting from the crash or how much it would cost to repair.
