A 2-year-old boy died Tuesday in Frankfort, according to the Will County coroner’s office, in what Frankfort police called an apparent domestic related homicide.
Police went to the home on the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday and found the boy unresponsive. CPR was administered and the boy was taken to a hospital, police said.
Officers also found the child’s mother in the home attempting self-harm, and took her to a hospital, police said. The injuries were not life threatening, police said.
The boy was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m. at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox as the result of an apparent homicide, the coroner’s office said in a news release. The coroner’s office did not release his name.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy,” Frankfort police said in a news release. “We encourage our community to support one another with compassion, understanding, and strength as we navigate this difficult time together.”
An autopsy was performed Wednesday, the coroner’s office said, and final cause and manner of death will be determined following autopsy, police and toxicological reports.
Neighbor Michael Lipuma said he didn’t know the family. He only knew what he had seen in the news, he said, but called the incident sad.
“I came home yesterday, and when I came home it was like, just started going on,” Lipuma said. “There was a woman laying in the street, crying.”
