A Naperville woman who killed her fiance while fighting with him over his dating another woman was sentenced Wednesday to 38 years in prison.

Rosa Lagrone, 40, convicted of first-degree murder in a jury trial in February, shot Darnell Manns on Nov. 6, 2020, during an argument at her home in the 0 to 100 block of 25W Keswick Lane, according to a DuPage County state’s attorney’s office news release.

Prosecutors said the bullet Lagrone fired struck Manns in the arm and lodged in his spine. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died three days later.

“Following the shooting, Lagrone used Manns’ Facebook page to live video-chat with the woman whom Manns allegedly had been dating while he was on the floor in the background in a pool of blood,” the release said.

Lagrone, who has been held in the DuPage County jail since Nov. 8, 2020, will be required to serve 100% of her sentence before being eligible for parole, the release said.

“Domestic violence continues to be a plague on society with the worst cases carrying permanent, heart-breaking consequences, as we saw in the murder of Darnell Manns,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

“Judge (Daniel) Guerin’s 38-year sentence sends a strong message that in DuPage County we will not tolerate this type of violent behavior. No number of years, however, will bring Darnell back to those who loved him and those he loved.”
