A Homer Glen man who barricaded himself in his home for 7 1/2 hours Tuesday following a Darien home invasion is in custody, authorities said.

Darien police were called to the 1400 block of Sequoia Drive for a home invasion shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police pursued the suspect from the home, but ended the pursuit when they lost sight of the suspect’s car around 143rd Street and Bell Road in Homer Glen, according to a news release from Darien police.

Officers from another law enforcement agency located the suspect a short time later entering his home in the 1300 block of Maverick Trail in Homer Glen, Darien police said.

Darien police requested assistance from the DuPage MERIT SWAT team to execute a search warrant of the home. The man barricaded himself in his home for several hours, prompting a “shelter in place” order from Will County authorities for neighboring residents, officials said.

The Will County Sheriff’s SWAT team also assisted DuPage County authorities in the hours-long negotiations before officers were able to safely enter the home and take the man into custody.

As of Tuesday evening, the man remained in custody of the Darien Police Department. As of Wednesday afternoon, no charges had been filed in the case.

A resident of the Darien home was injured during the home invasion and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
