PUBLIC ART DESERVES MENTION IN NAPERVILLE’S SUCCESS

I enjoy reading about the wonders of our fair city. Naperville being the best at so many things is incredible and I think the reporting should cover that fact. However, time after time after time when we receive an accolade, the article’s author misses a subtle reason for why the kudus occur.

The Naperville Sun’s front page article on July 26 about Naperville being a “retail mecca“ since 2017 says the success is thanks in part to the city’s “shopping centers, restaurant scene, automobile dealerships, gas purchases and grocery stores.” My observation would be why not recognize the subtle influence on this as a result of our “public art“?

The fact is that our competing communities for this dubious title have nothing comparable along that line for the visitor or resident. This would not only include the 53 locations of Century Walk art, which are mostly in downtown Naperville, but also other artistic representations that are all free to the public 24/7/365.

Let’s hope that when our community receives future recognition for its outstanding features, which it will, that your reporting includes this asset to our community, which separates us from the rest and subliminally serves as a reason for such awards in the first place.
