A house in La Grange Park sustained an estimated $75,000 in damage Wednesday night after a fire erupted in its attic.
According to a news release from the La Grange Park Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. July 17 to a single-family home in the 300 block of North Stone Avenue after receiving a report of smoke coming from one of the home’s roof vents. Firefighters elevated the response to a full still alarm, allowing them to call in more resources, they said.
The people who lived in the home had already escaped. Upon investigating the source of the smoke, firefighters discovered a fire in the attic area, they said, and deployed a hose into the house to douse the flames. Firefighters also vented the roof to allow smoke and heat to escape, they said, and opened the ceiling and walls to help access the fire.

“The main body of fire was extinguished within approximately 20 minutes,” fire officials said in the release. They remained on the scene for two hours to investigate the fire and ensure it was completely out. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, they said. No injuries were reported.
La Grange Park officials said their firefighters were assisted on the scene by departments from La Grange, Brookfield, Western Springs, Westchester, Riverside and Westmont. The MABAS Division 10 Origin and Cause Team assisted with the fire investigation, while the Hillside, Lyons and Tri-State fire departments covered La Grange Park fire stations during the fire.
