A 22-year-old Evanston resident is facing criminal sexual abuse charges.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office announced charges against Oscar Leon Patino, a former employee of an assisted-living facility in Evanston, for sexual abuse committed against an individual with a disability.

Oscar Leon Patino, 22, was charged in Cook County Circuit Court with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felonies punishable by up to seven years in prison. Additional charges included two counts of criminal sexual abuse, Class 4 felonies punishable by up to three years in prison; and one count of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Leon Patino appeared before Judge Mary Marubio at Skokie Courthouse on June 15 for a preliminary hearing, according to. Cook County Court records, and was ordered to next appear June 23 for arraignment. He is being detained in custody. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment.

Leon Patino worked as a laundry aide at an assisted-living facility in Evanston, according to the Attorney General’s indictment. Raoul’s office alleges Leon Patino sexually abused a resident of the facility knowing the victim had a physical and intellectual disability, according to the press release.

“It is egregious for anyone to prey on an individual with a disability, especially someone tasked with providing services to those who cannot care for themselves,” Raoul said.

The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is prosecuting this case following a referral from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Evanston Police Department assisted the fraud control unit with the investigation.

An arrest does not constitute a conviction.
