A person of interest was in custody Thursday after Samir Kassem, 77, was killed in Orland Park Wednesday evening, according to Orland Park police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner’s office listed Kassem’s death Thursday as a homicide, with the cause being multiple injuries from an assault.

Orland Park police said in a news release officers responded to the residence on Concord Drive at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, finding Kassem dead when they arrived. They spoke with the person who called 911 to report the death, according to police.

Police would not provide details about the person in custody but said they were still investigating Thursday afternoon.
