Amid the palm trees, glitz and glamour that are synonymous with Los Angeles, the NHL unveiled its list of the top 100 players of all time during a slick, made-for-TV ceremony Friday night.

Though thrilled to be included with legends of the game such as Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux, the man known as “Mr. Goalie” — Glenn Hall — chose to sit this one out and remain at his home in Alberta, Canada, for a very simple reason.

“I’m not a Hollywood-type guy,” Hall said.

The Hockey Hall of Famer whose No. 1 hangs from the United Center rafters after starring for the Blackhawks for 10 seasons — including leading them to the 1961 Stanley Cup — was one of seven former and three current Hawks honored as part of the 2017 NHL All-Star Game festivities.

Former Hawks joining Hall on the list were Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Max Bentley, Denis Savard, Chris Chelios and Tony Esposito. Current players Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith also were included.

“It’s tremendously complimentary,” Hall said of the honor via phone. “There are so many great, great players, not only in the top 100, top 200, top 300 or how far you want to go, so to be in the top 100 is really almost unbelievable.

“You’re being recognized that you did pretty good and that you accomplished what you were trying to do. I absolutely enjoyed playing hockey. It’s the greatest thing that I ever did and the only thing I ever wanted to do. It’s kind of nice to be recognized.”

It also was special for Keith.

“To be kind of lumped into a group of players with these guys, I don’t really have words for it, the defenseman said. “I feel like I’m a kid trying to be like these guys with the way I play the game.

“It’s extremely special to be in this with Kane and Toews and then on top of it the Blackhawks family. It’s more than just us three, it’s all the guys who got named.”

Added Toews: “It’s something special for a team with the history that the Blackhawks have, being an Original Six franchise in that city, going back as long as they do, having the sweater. There’s just this energy, this history, this kind of richness to it all that I think is special. For us to already be midway through our careers and be thrown in the same conversation as guys like Tony O and Bobby Hull and Stan and Denis, it’s crazy. I don’t think even if I’m still playing somewhat close to 10 years from now I would still believe that I should be mentioned at that level.

“I’m honored,” the Hawks captain added. “I’m flattered. I want to let myself believe it but at the same time there is that part of you that wants to stay humble. The amount of incredible people and special players that have done so much to build this game, they’re the ones that make it special for you to get drafted and to realize your dream to play in the NHL to begin with.

Most heartwarming to Hall was the inclusion of some of his former teammates, including Hull and Mikita. Hull attended the ceremony, but Mikita was unable to make the trip because of health issues.

“It makes you feel good that we’re all recognized,” Hall said. “Certainly Bobby and Stan were in a class with Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr and the Rocket (Maurice Richard). You can go on forever naming great, great players.”

Savard called it “a hat trick for me in my life as far as individual honors.”

“Hockey is a team game but Hall of Fame, number retired, The top 100 is pretty cool,” he added. I’m blessed. The guys will tell you the same thing, it’s not about them, it’s about how they got surrounded.”

Many of those great players gathered for the event, which became a who’s who of the royalty of the sport. The NHL did not rank the players, but the Big Three of Gretzky, Orr and Lemieux left no doubt who they believe is the greatest of all.

“I think we’re all pretty much in agreement that Gordie was pretty special,” Gretzky said. “(Orr and Lemieux) were pretty special also. We all have so much respect for what Gordie … accomplished. It’s not a bad thing to be named in the top 100 behind a guy like Gordie Howe.”

Said Orr: “Gordie is in my mind the best who ever played the game. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see another one (like him).”

Added Lemieux: “(Howe) could play any way that you wanted out there, a great goal scorer, tough … and always taking care of business. But he was truly a great ambassador for the game. He loved the game. He played until he was 51 years old, and that’s pretty rare these days. He was certainly a very special player, but Wayne with all the numbers and Bobby really changed the game as far as the way the game is played by a defenseman.”
