Defending champion Tilden climbed back into the Public League Central Section football race Thursday night by outlasting Phillips 12-2 at Gately Stadium.

Tilden (5-1, 2-1), which lost 34-0 last week to Robeson, took a 12-0 lead on Jerome Sellers` 9-yard run with a fumble recovery in the first quarter and Fred Howard`s 50-yard run in the third quarter.
Phillips (4-2, 2-1), which never got its running game untracked, got a safety when Tilden downed the ball in its own end zone late in the fourth quarter. Robeson leads the section with a 2-0 record.
King 14, Dunbar 6–Curtis Adams passed 20 yards to David Calhoun for a second-quarter TD and Tim Kinsey sneaked over from a yard out in the fourth quarter as the Jaguars (4-2, 2-1) won the Central Section game.
Gage Park 32, Hubbard 6–Jason Brock, Gage Park`s leading rusher and scorer, tossed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Puckett in the West Section romp. Ed Wilkinson scored twice on 1-yard runs for the Owls (5-1, 3-0).
Harper 46, Calumet 0–Walter Williams (21 carries for 214 yards) scored on runs of 32 and 24 yards and Jerry Crawford completed 12 of 16 passes for 249 yards and 3 TDs to lead Harper (3-3, 2-1) in the Southwest Section.
Taft 32, Steinmetz 6–Mike Kelly threw TD passes of 6, 8 and 18 yards to Chris Surawski as the Eagles (4-2, 1-2) soared over Steinmetz (0-6, 0-3) in the North Section.
Sullivan 36, Roosevelt 14–Maurice McGruder scored three TDs and Bo Hentz returned a punt 65 yards for a score as five-time defending champion Sullivan (3-2, 3-1) kept its title hopes alive in the Northeast Section.
Marshall 28, Near North 8–Clinton Smiley (18 carries for 94 yards)
scored 3 TDs for the Commandos (3-2, 3-1) in the Northwest Section game. Near North is 4-2, 4-1.
Golf
Catholic League meet–Brother Rice, led by John Smyth`s 74 and Ken Stubitsch`s 77, finished at 319 to win the team title. Loyola Academy was second at 322. Mt. Carmel`s Tony Russo carded a 4-under-par 68 for medalist honors.
North Suburban Conference meet–Kevin Huber of Libertyville and Doug Wegrzyn of Lake Forest shared medalist honors at 7-over 77. Huber won a playoff with a par on the second hole. Libertyville finished two strokes ahead of Lake Forest (319-321) to take team honors.
Northeast Conference meet–Ken Eberly (80), Jan Mandel (82) and Steve Schuit (84) swept the first three places as Lemont captured the team title with a 333.
Soccer
Forest View 2, Hoffman Estates 1–Gino Sciortino scored 2 goals, the last coming late in the fourth quarter to snap a 1-1 tie, as Forest View (14-2, 8-1), ranked 11th in The Tribune poll, defeated the No. 1-ranked Hawks (14-1, 8-1) in a Mid-Suburban League South match. Ken Snow scored his 27th goal of the season for Hoffman.
