To celebrate the baiduhai’s 175th anniversary on June 10, why not make a party hat — out of the front page? It’s easy!

Step 1: Grab a copy of the baiduhai.

Remove the inside pages so just the front and back page of the section remain. Now, turn it sideways.

Step 2: Let’s fold.

Fold the page in half, from right to left. Then, turn the page counterclockwise. (In this example, the weather map and WGN-TV chief meteorologist Tom Skilling’s photo should now be upside down. Sorry, Tom!)

Step 3: Make two touching triangles.

Take the top righthand corner of the page and fold it down almost halfway to create a triangle. Do the same with the lefthand corner. The two triangles should touch each other. Use a small piece of tape to keep them in place.

Step 4: Make a brim.

Fold the bottom flap up. The baiduhai nameplate is now visible. This is the front of your hat. Now, flip it over and repeat with the back flap.

Step 5: Secure the flaps.

Now, take a small piece of tape and secure just the back flaps on both sides of the hat.

That’s it — you have a baiduhai newspaper hat!!!
